Structural Framing & Space Reconfiguration

location

Completed

December 2021

Project Overview:

By engineering a custom workspace within an existing oversized landing, we successfully carved out a private home office without compromising hallway flow. Through the use of a space-saving pocket door and integrated lighting, we delivered a functional home addition that appears to be a natural extension of the original floor plan.

Objectives:

  1. Spatial Efficiency: Utilize a pocket door system to provide privacy and sound dampening without the footprint required by a traditional  door.
  2. Seamless Integration: Match the architectural details, trim, and finishes of the existing structure to ensure the addition feels like a native part of the home’s floor plan.
  3. Enhanced Illumination: Incorporate modern lighting solutions to ensure the new workspace is bright, productive, and inviting.

Scope of Work:

  • Reconfigured the oversized landing area to create a framed office enclosure, optimized for a quiet professional environment.
  • Installed a custom pocket door to allow for an unobstructed hallway and maximum usable floor space within the office interior.
  • Integrated recessed pot lights to provide clean, overhead illumination, modernizing the area and enhancing the overall ambiance

The successful completion of this home office addition turned a transitional landing into a high-value, functional asset. This project demonstrates how thoughtful design and "no shortcuts" craftsmanship can carve out a sophisticated workspace within an existing footprint while maintaining the home’s aesthetic integrity.
