Wellington Street Project

Project Overview:

Located in the heart of downtown Kitchener, this project is a comprehensive "to-the-studs" restoration of a century-old home. The goal was to preserve the original architectural soul of the 1918 structure while completely modernizing its internal systems and converting the underutilized attic into a premium living space.

Objectives:

1. Heritage Preservation: Honor the original 1918 footprint and room configurations while performing a complete interior gut and modernization.
2. Modern Infrastructure & Safety: Stripping away a century of outdated lath and plaster to install a modern electrical grid and essential plumbing upgrades. This phase focused on bringing the home’s core systems up to current safety standards while working within the existing architectural footprint.
3. Maximized Utility: Reclaim the home’s full potential by converting the attic into a functional loft, adding significant living area without changing the home’s external profile.

Scope of Work:

• Complete removal of lath and plaster throughout the home to expose the original framework for structural inspection and modernization.
• Full electrical system upgrade with integrated pot lighting on the main floor and new plumbing to service the updated bathrooms.
• Structural reinforcement and finishing of the attic to create a "dream loft" living space.
• A total kitchen renovation, a new 3-piece bathroom on the second floor, and the addition of a main-floor powder room—all within the original layout.
• Installation of flooring throughout all levels and a full interior paint finish to bridge the gap between historic charm and modern luxury.
